Bosphorus Bridge / Istanbul / Turkiye

Bosphorus Bridge is the one of two bridges which is on Bosphorus Istanbul between Black Sea and Marmara Sea. It is the first bridge which connects Europe and Asia continental. It is completed and started using on 50th years anniversary of Turkish Republic.
The bridge is between Ortaköy (European side) and Beylerbeyi ( Asian side).
Nowadays,the bridge is forbidden pedestrian traffic. But it opens only once a year for pedestrians on Eurasia Marathon.

The name of Bosphorus comes from Greek. This word analysed as bous (ox) and poros ( means of passing river,ford),thus meaning ‘ox-ford’. Boshphorus name is a reference  from Zeus and his young  love Io. In myths, Io is River God Inahos’s daughter. The king of Gods Zeus fell in love when saw her and they meet secretly from Zeus wife,Hera. One day, Zeus turn himself to a cloud and turn Io to an Ox before caught Hera. Unfallen Hera wants ox as a gift from Zeus. Hera leave Io to a monster,Argos Panoptis’s  surveillance. But Zeus sends Hermes to kill Argos. Upon this, Hera haunts housefly to disturb Io. Io starts run to get away from housefly and jump to strait and swims to pass. Therefore, The name of Bosphorus is known with this myth.
